Bedford Junior Blues Rugby Club has been providing rugby for children aged 6-17 years old for over 30 years.
DWM have decided this year to sponsor the team which goes to helping ensure the tour is a success and memorable event for all involved.
The Bedford Junior Blues have just returned from another fantastic trip to Salles, France (just south west of Bordeaux). This annual event has been running between (BJB) and Salles Rugby Club for 40 years with each team hosting on alternate years and 2014 was Bedford’s turn to take the trip.
Day one was a ferocious encounter between Bedford and the local side ‘Sud Bassin Archachon Rugby Club’ with aggressive attacks and defence from both teams. Unfortunately it ended with BJB being defeated 13-12 but the boys enjoyed being interviewed by the local TV channel who popped down to get the scoop on all the action.
Day two brought out a lot of local supporters and plenty of French sunshine for the second day of the tournament known as ‘Le Crunch’ between BJB and tournament hosts Salles. The game started and Bedford were looking positive but with the but the age, physical differences and some interesting interpretations of the rugby laws it started to take its toll on the travellers. The game progressed and with Salles having made a strong lead, the game finished at 39-8.
“The tour provided an unforgettable cultural and sporting experience to 22 squad players from local Bedford Schools. Head Coach Chris Johnson said “without the support from our sponsors (DWM, Amenities Ltd and Paragon) this tour would not have been possible, as many of the boys come from modest family backgrounds, and the individual cost would have been financially prohibitive, both the coaches and the boys would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who have helped to make this tour possible. We look forward to welcoming Salles to Bedford in the spring of 2015”
